The current industry requirement for employment as a Pool Lifeguard in a Swimming Pool or Aquatic Centre is the RLS Pool Lifeguard Licence.

The Pool Lifeguard Licence Award conducted by Royal Life Saving is recognised throughout Australia and in many countries around the world. This is an entry-level qualification that can lead to an exciting career in the aquatic and recreation industry.

Pre-requisites: Candidates must possess a current First Aid Certificate (NSW Workcover recognised) and a current RLSSA Bronze Medallion.

Minimum Age: Recommendation - Calendar year in which candidate turns 16.

Candidates can complete a 3 day Pool Lifeguard Package (including Bronze and First Aid) or a 2 day Pool Lifeguard course before completing their on-the-job requirements to obtain their Pool Lifeguard Licence.

Successful candidates will also receive a Statement of Attainment that includes the following Units of Competency from the National Community Recreation Training Package:

SRCAQU003B Respond to an aquatic emergency using basic water rescue techniques

SRCAQU006B Supervise clients in an aquatic facility or environment

SRCAQU007B Respond to an aquatic emergency using advanced water rescue techniques

SRXEMR003A Administer oxygen in an emergency situation
